Learn about the ancient Maya culture and script!

On Wednesday, 23 May, Agnieszka Hamann from Warsaw University will give a guest lecture in English on

“Why the world did not end in 2012 and what glyphs tell us about the Maya concept of history”

at 1:15 pm in room 302 (Collegium Novum B)

and show us how the script works in a workshop (in Polish and English) at 3 pm in room 109 (Collegium Novum B).

Everybody is welcome!

First ELLDo students get “absolutorium”

We have this nice tradition at our university that each year in May students who will finish their MA studies take part in a celebration called “absolutorium”. The term should not be taken too serious – there are still some exams ahead and MA theses to complete, but as students actually finish at various dates from mid June till the end of September we take this opportunity to celebrate together. So, this year the first generation of ELLDo students threw their hats into the air, and their teachers proudly cheered them on 19 May 2018.
(PS There are also 2 ELLDo teachers on the above picture – can you identify them?)

ELLDo at ILS: get more information on Tuesday 15 May

ELLDo will soon change its affiliation: we are transferring from the Institute of Lingustics (IJ) to the Institute of Applied Linguistics (ILS). Officially this step will be made on July 1, but if you are interested in taking up ELLDo you may already turn to the ILS for information about “rekrutacja” (enrolement). And don’t worry: the faculty, the teachers and of course the quality of the program will be the same as before.

For all those who will finish their BA this summer and are looking for the right program to pursue a MA degree, the Institute of Applied Linguistics organizes a meeting with information about the programs they offer – including ELLDo. If you are in Poznan you are invited to come and ask all you ever wanted to know about ELLDo:

Tuesday, 15 May 2018, 11 am
Collegium Historicum, room 118

Happy Grammar Day

I first thought it was a joke, but it seems that some people in the USA are celebrating a National Grammar Day today. Well, for me each day is grammar day – and that’s not about what is “correct” and what isn’t, but about the fun exploring the structures of languages.
